A few specific fixes for kingstonfamilylaw.co.uk

Kingston Family Law · Beverley, East Yorkshire · website rebuild

I rebuild small-business websites in my spare time when I can see they are leaving good clients on the table. Spent an hour on the live kingstonfamilylaw.co.uk on a phone, on a laptop, and through the rich-results tester. Three things stood out: a structured-data block placing the office in Stockholm, a social-share card that renders as a black smudge in iMessage, and a 14-year-old jQuery carousel hiding the Chambers UK 2026 ranking below the fold. This document is the three findings in detail, then a working rebuild at the same URL one click away.

Three findings

What an hour on the live site surfaced

01

The structured data says the office is in Stockholm.

What I sawThe LocalBusiness JSON-LD block on kingstonfamilylaw.co.uk gives geo coordinates 59.331287 / 18.065303, a placeholder pin in central Stockholm, Sweden. The aggregateRating in the same block is four empty strings (ratingValue: "", ratingCount: "", bestRating: "", worstRating: ""). The BreadcrumbList immediately below has ten ListItem positions, all with empty name and item fields. The sameAs array carries five empty strings and a LinkedIn search-results URL rather than the firm's LinkedIn organisation profile.

Why it mattersGoogle's rich-result panel can read 62 five-star reviews on ReviewSolicitors, the Chambers UK 2026 ranking and the Legal 500 quotes for Claire Withers, but the schema served from the homepage tells Search there are no reviews, no breadcrumbs, and that the office is somewhere in central Sweden. The rich snippet that should anchor a Beverley boutique on "family solicitor Beverley" or "divorce lawyer East Yorkshire" is therefore blank, so the panel goes to whoever does have working schema, typically the 100-year generalists across town.

What the rebuild doesThe rebuild ships a proper LegalService / Attorney subtype JSON-LD with the real HU17 0NP coordinates, the live ReviewSolicitors aggregate rating, a Person block for Claire Withers carrying the Chambers and Legal 500 quotes, a Service block per practice area, and a FAQPage block tied to the FAQ section. Validated through Google's Rich Results tester before launch.

02

Beverley does not appear in the page title or the social card.

What I sawThe homepage title reads "Divorce, Wealth Protection & Family Lawyer & Solicitors, East Yorkshire" and the OpenGraph title and twitter:title both read "Family Lawyer & Solicitors, East Yorkshire | ... Hull". Beverley, where the office actually sits, never appears. The og:image is /images/logo.png, the thin KINGSTON wordmark on a transparent PNG. Pasted into WhatsApp, iMessage or Slack the unfurl card shows the gold wordmark rendered on a black background (transparent PNGs default to black on dark unfurls), so the card reads as a faint smudge rather than a Beverley legal practice.

Why it mattersBeverley is a six-mile drive from central Hull and a separate professional catchment. Search queries that should land on this firm, "family solicitor Beverley", "divorce lawyer Beverley", "pre-nuptial agreement East Yorkshire", are answered by listings whose title tag and OG card actually mention Beverley. The forwarded WhatsApp link from one separating spouse to the other lands as a black smudge rather than a calm, branded preview, so the second click never happens.

What the rebuild doesTitle tag carries Beverley and the practice area on every page. og:image is a proper 1200x630 card with the team in their walnut-boardroom shoot, the Beverley Minster silhouette behind the wordmark, on the firm's cream-and-champagne palette. twitter:card stays summary_large_image. The unfurl in iMessage now looks like the firm.

03

Chambers 2026 and Claire's Legal 500 quotes are below the carousel.

What I sawThe homepage loads jQuery 1.8.0 (August 2012), animate.css, slick carousel and lightbox before any content paints. The first visible block is a full-width hero carousel of five background-image JPGs served at original resolution with no responsive srcset. The Chambers UK 2026 listing for Kingston Family Law, Claire Withers' Band 4 ranking and the Legal 500 pull quote ("renowned for her no-nonsense, straightforward approach to family law") all sit below the fold, after the carousel auto-advances through five slides.

Why it mattersOn a 3G phone the hero carousel takes more than four seconds to settle and a separating spouse reading on the kitchen counter at 11pm bounces before the rankings appear. The single strongest credibility moment Kingston has, against the Sandersons / Lockings / Williamsons generalist incumbents in town, is the Chambers band and the Legal 500 voice. Burying both behind a 14-year-old jQuery carousel hands the lead to whoever surfaces credentials first.

What the rebuild doesCarousel replaced by a single editorial hero: walnut-table team portrait on the right, "Beverley's boutique family-law practice" lockup on the left, Chambers UK 2026 / Legal 500 / Resolution badges in the eyebrow above the H1, and Claire's Legal 500 quote pulled into the hero's lede. The rebuild is plain Astro on Vercel, no jQuery, no carousel, no animate.css. Mobile LCP target under 1.5 seconds.
